Bang Again!!!

This time a comfort cab hit my car from the back. We really felt the impact when it came onto us.

Immediately it ran through my mind, "not again! I'm really not in the mood to take pictures and swap IDs what not!"

Oddly enough, when I came out looked at the taxi, not a scratch. I looked at my bumper, not a scratch as well. WEIRD. It's a happy weird though.

I just told the cab driver to forget it and went on with our business. Phew!

It's back!!

Its been exactly a week since the incident. My car had spent the last week checked into the workshop getting repairs. Because the accident happened on a weekend, the reporting was only done Monday. Repairs started on Tuesday. And now it's back!!!!
Total work took 3 days. Bumper and bonnet replaced. According to workshop, no damage to the engine! Awesome! Looks good at new!!

Total cost of repairs is not confirmed yet. It's expected to be close to 3k, but pending settlement with the insurance claims side. For me, the current damage will just be $600 in excess payment, until a time my insurance premiums get adjusted due to this. Fingers crossed for no change in premiums.

Thanks to insurance, I got a replacement car for 10days. It's actually quite a huge car.
In a way, it's a blessing in disguise. Monday evening we had to go to the airport to pick up our nieces returning from West Papua. They had tons of luggage. Thankfully, this car had enormous boot space. We managed to cater for most of their stuff in this one car.  This won't be something I could achieve with my picanto.

The only thing left for me to do now is to expend the petrol in the replacement car before returning it. lol

Bye Bye Perfect Driving Record

It really not the way I had planned the evening to be. We were on our way to dinner. Everything seemed normal. We were moving quite smoothly on the expressway. I was preparing to keep left early for the Cairnhill Circle exit on the CTE. I noticed there was quite a heavy flow of vehicles joining CTE from Balestier side. I didn't think much about it cause we were on the main flow and should have the right of way.

Alas! I was wrong, this lorry jammed to a halt. The taxi behind it seemed to be able to stop in time, but I couldn't stop in time somehow. BAM!! We made firm contact with the back of the taxi. I've already maxed my foot brake and handbrakes. Perhaps it was the slope, as I was not travelling faster than 70kph. At that instant, I was just shell-shocked.

Thankfully everyone in the car seemed alright.

But my poor Kia Picanto looked pretty bad at first glance. Picanto was never intended for such impact. Its bonnet folded and the bumper flatten. One of the headlights was smashed as well. We were still able to drive slightly to the URA carpark at KKH to wait for the tow truck.

We had quite a nice and entertaining guy helping us with the tow to the workshop. Had quite an insight into the work of a tow truck driver.

On hindsight, it really wasn't that bad considering the fact that the car is still drivable.

Still a nerve-wrecking experience. While it's not really my fault for this incident. It's really important to adhere to safe following distances and speed limits. Things could have turned ugly if I was speeding or tailgating. Both of which are common on roads these days.

Many things are out of our control. But for those which are controllable. Stick to it. Drive safe!
