Transformers, Revenge of the Fallen

Watched on 24th June 2009
@ The Cathay

This sequel follows closely after the events of part 1. Megatron is defeated but not destroyed, but dun be mistaken that this is the revenge of Megatron. I thought so at first, but it appears that Megatron is just a pawn in this installation.

San Witwicky, tries to live a normal like after the events of part 1, do you honestly think it's possible. I like the immediate irony he faces the moment he steps into his new school. See the look on his face. hahah!!

Storyline of this movie follows on a certain parallel to the cartoons I used to watch. "The matrix", this phrase is introduced to me by Transformers so long ago, I almost forgot abt it. Thank god it's not Mr Keanu Reeves.. hahaa.

Action sequences are non-stop. but it seems the producers realised the last one was too much, too fast, too confusing. This time it's actually better and clearer. There are quite a few cool fight scenes among the robots. Which set me wondering, in the cartoon series all i remember are gun fights (laser guns) not so much fist fighting actions. Fists are still more reliable yeah?

Comical parts are still abundant in many parts of the movie. Characters to note for that, Sam's mum, Government Liaison Officer, Bumblebee, Wheeler(a weak tiny robot).

Overal, I like the movie, it's kindda long though, abt 2.5hrs. Perhaps I was tired and watching it at 1am, but in the end, I was just hoping for more. I was expecting there to be another peek for the next episode. NOPE did not get it.. :P

Taking of Pelham 1 2 3

Watched on 21st June 2009
@ Downtown East

Story unfolds as a subway train in New York City, is very skillfully hijacked. The Hijacker is a "brilliant" yet hooligan looking John Travolta, while Denzel Washington plays the train network operator who happened to get embroiled in this whole fiasco.

This movie all in all is a narration of an incident. There are tiny clues here and there which sets me thinking of the reason for their actions. But there no conclusion, it's too open ended. The only way to enjoy this show is just watch it without any questions OR simply answer all the questions yourself.

I did the latter, Denzel is a righteous yet guilty person thus his actions. Travolta is just out to get a huge scoop under the blanket of chaos. He almost did, if not for a dumb New York Mayor who suddenly became SMART in the middle of the movie. That's amazing.. hahaa..

Love You Man

Watched on 20th Jun 2009
@ Cineleisure Lvl 6

I have to confess, once again I did not think much of this movie. It just did not have a good enough poster or trailer or whatever. I was just not attracted at first sight. And once again i'm glad I had actually watched it. It's a choice made out of no choices. Nothing else left to watch. Kinda..

Do not be mistaken that this movie is another romantic "man loves woman, something come in between, they strive and conquer" kind of movie. IT IS NOT!! It's about MAN, yeah, it's all about brotherly love. haha. This movie talks about the relationships of men with other men, hugely explored. And I'm proud to say I can appreciate every one of them.

I find an interesting idea from this movie "men can love women all they want, but men still need men." It's a social thing, some things men just cant do without another men.

Conclusion, great movie. be it for the laughs or the "logics" behind everything. I like it!!

Children of Men (2006)

Watched on 19th June 2009
@ PPStream

I've been watching quite a few movies online thru this program called PPStream. It's quite good actually. They have "new" movies or series updated every now and then. Since this blog is about movies I will not talk about the serials I've watched on it and only focus on movies.

This movie is set in the future 2027, where mankind is on the verge of extinction cos we have lost the ability to reproduce. It's an interesting plot, considering it's a 3 year old movie. But similar plots can be found in Æon Flux. I find watching this movie reminding me alot abt Æon Flux, cloning will be the only future man has if we do not reproduce.

Anyway, back to Children of Men, in a world were there had been no babies for almost 2 decades, a miracle has happened. Kee, a young African somehow got pregnant. And the story flows along the line of bringing her to a group of humanitarians only known as the Human Project.

The whole plot does have a few loopholes here and there, but it is plausible. So I just watched on to see the ending. Well... it's a typical disaster movie ending, people die so people can survive...

Oh I have to mention this, the whole world is IN CHAOS, and UK is the only government left in the world!! HAHAHAA!!! Even Singapore was destroyed, yes we appeared in a newsflash for less than a second..

Favourite Lines:

Theodore Faron: Who's the father?
Kee: Whiffet! I'm a virgin. Nah! Be great, though, wouldn't it? Fuck knows. I don't know half the wankers' names.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kee: Froley.
Theodore Faron: Froley.
Kee: Name my baby Froley.
Theodore Faron: It's the first baby in 18 years. You can't call it Froley.
Kee: Says who?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kee: I want to call her Bazouka.
Theodore Faron: Bazouka?
Kee: You don't like it?
Theodore Faron: I was getting used to Froley.

Drag me to Hell

Watched on 17th June 2009
@ The Cathay

This is a great horror flick from the director of the modern spiderman, Sam Raimi. Thanks to a pretty interesting review in 8 days, I've watched this film, cos I initially had no intention of watching this horror show. Simply not my type of show. Simply cos 80% of them have lousy plots and even lousier endings. this is an exception. It's actually quite well done.

The horror is intense, and the storyline flows quite smoothly. There are quite a few comical parts. The audience in the cinema were actually very responsive, the laughter and screams of shock were ever present. This is a sign that the show has reached the viewers.

I enjoyed the show very much. And most of all there is a great moral to the story. And left you to find out for yourselves.

Rham Jas: I think you misunderstood, she didnt do it.

Christine: What do you mean? We saw her banish the spirit with our own eyes.

Rham Jas: She only banished the Lamia from the seanace, the goat was not killed.

Midway thru June

I'm now somewhere in the middle of June and I'm start to worry slightly abt my FYP. BUT BUT BUT.. I'm still confident it will be fine. I'll start soon. haha.

Plans to go Melbourne has been cancelled cos mum's specialist has advised otherwise. I do feel a little shame of having to miss the opportunity to visit Australia for the first time and also try out skiing. BLARDY H1N1!! But cant be helped, i'll be there one day.

I've had my ankle looked at on monday by the chinese physician. The conclusion is that my ankle has a very tight nerve/tendon. And from what she tells me. I believe I need to do my warm up and cool downs more aggressively. high-cut shoes are going to be the IN thing in my shoe cabinets from now on.

I've been making some changes to my room. A Ikea bunk bed which came on tuesday, it's really cool. big enough for 2, thanks to my high ceiling, there's still space to sit up on the top. I shifted my cupboards around and somehow created alot of space. Looks as if I have a mini office in my room. It's quite cool actually. I spent the whole of yesterday doing manual labour, cleaning, shifting, carrying stuff around. it's not done yet.. But when I'm done I believe it's going to look great.

Oh yah, I manage to overtake almost all my friends except silie on RC.. But i'm almost there!! muahaha!!

Ghost of Girlfriends Past

Watched on 12th Jun 2009
@ Cineleisure Lvl 4

Remember Charles Dicken's "A Christmas Carol"? I'll admit I did not remember!! hahaa. I never read the book, only watch movies adapted from it. All I remember was the scrooge who hates christmas and 3 ghosts appear on chrismas eve to try to convince him otherwise.

Well, this movie plays along the same line, except the scrouge is an ultra playboy who hates love. And the ghosts here are trying to convince him otherwise. I knew this was going to be the main flow of the movie even watching it and I guess I was somehow expecting something new or some twists to bring the movie to the next level.

Disappointingly, I think this movie doesnt offer much except for the same laughs and comedy that you would see from the old "a christmas carol" novels or movie remakes. A tinch of romance was added to try to spark things up, but nope.. not there.

It's pretty much like a disney kids movie. It's still enjoyable an entertaining, IF YOU HAVE NOTHING ELSE BETTER TO DO!!!

Oh my fave part of the movie? The secretary! She's the SPARK!!

State of Play

Watched on 10th June 2009
@ Cineleisure Orchard

What exactly is the relationship of journalists and politicians? Who's using who? Are the reporters getting to politicians just to get a scoop, the next big news? Or are the politicians just using the reporters to spread the desired proganda to aid watever their agenda?

Well, this movie tries to make us even more confused, cause it's a thriller and a mystery. Trust me, you will have tons of questions at the start of the show. And everytime you thin ku have the answer, the show suceeds in giving you a new question.

Despite convincing acting performances by the main actors, I still feel the plot rather shallow, perhaps it's cause this movie is actually an adaptation of a 6 part mini-series into just 2 hrs. Thus the plot does feel thin at times.

Ben affleck's character is ULTRA-flawed in this movie. How does such a person even become a politician in the first place?? And also the link to private contractors for military operations. It seems like this is a big topic in US nowadays, cos this same issue has also been used to poke on in the series 24, season 7.

Blood

Watched on 7th June 2009
@ The Cathay

This movie is based on a popular japanese manga. It basically revolves around a girl named Saya, she is a hybrid human-vampire. Her father was human and mother was a vampire. Her father is a vampire slayer and and was killed by the most evil and vile vampire ever. This movie blurs the difference between vampire & demon, it's basically the same thing in this show. Anyway, this show is kind of abt the path of Saya to seek revenge for this father, while somehow getting entangle with an american girl, who so happens to be the daughter of the Airforce Base General, stationed in Japan.

The whole storyline doesnt really makes much sense to me, especially the ending parts. Really confusing.

The special effects are not fantastic either, reminds me of "hidden dragon, crouching tiger" aka very long time ago!! Perhaps cos it's the SAME PRODUCER!!!

Saya is played by "My Sassy Girl" star, Jun Ji Hyun, or Gianna Jun for the english fans. She's still as cool as ever.

A week after 27...

It's been a week since I turned 27, do i feel anything special happening to me?

Nope.

Do I feel like the future is clearer and brighter yet?

Nope.

BUT!!! I'm not too worried, cos "when the boat nears the dock, the boat will naturally align to the berth"

I'm not been rotting the whole days since my last post. Just part of the day for each day. hahaa.

I finally went back to TJ for a coaching session. And I quite liked it, Now the challenge is to maintain that enthusiaism..

My last post, I said there aint much celebration for my birthday this yr. But I had a wonderful weekend arranged by my WONDERFUL dear. it's simply nice and cosy and SHIOK!!!!

I've finally arrange for a new debit card replacement a few days ago, my currently looks like tattered newspaper. And I just received today. Quite efficient.

I've fixed my Adobe Premiere Activation problem on my desktop. It now works!!

I been following and watching Aviva open at the Indoor Stadium. There are certain matches that were really exciting. I even cycled to the Stadium, and yes, my bike is back in working condition, abt a 100bucks of parts replacement and enhancements, it's now working fine.

Today's Aviva matches are the 2 round of competitions and I witnessed 2 HUGE upsets. The top 2 seeds for mens singles were ousted from the competition by relative unknown players. Both games stretched into 3 sets and scores were ultra close. And the results of both games were identical, the underdaugs rule the courts today. Out goes crowd favourite Lee Chong Wei, majority of the supporters are rooting for him. Singaporeans will support malaysia and singapore is out of the picture, which actually mean most of the time. HAHAA!

27 years... random thoughts

I've felt that my best years have past me. And I still do everyone now and then. Aching here and there and everywhere after each exercise or sports session doesnt help either. But i've realised i've been focusing too much on being unhappy with myself. It's time to enjoy and be happy and grateful abt all the SMALL little happy things that happen, which I've taken for granted. For example,

to be able to eat, sleep, drink
to be able to go on holidays
to be able to play sports (even though not fantastically well)

So basically, i shld be happy.. just stop comparing, it's human to compare, thus it's also human that someone else always seems to be leading a better life. The fact = it's not better, just different.

I've not had much of a celebration for my bday this year, but it's fine, I dun have much intention of a celebration myself. But i was quite surprise that my facebook greetings are actually pretty active, so thanks guys. I do appreciate it. :)

I've finally uploaded photos for the Tioman trip. Not all just selected majority.
