Blue Mansion

Watched @ GV Marina Square

A long awaited local production by Glen Goei. This is a black comedy revolving around the death of a wealthy and powerful pineapple tycoon. This is a different form of comedy to the type of local stuff we are so used to with Jack Neo. This is closer to the style of $ell Out, a malaysia production I saw earlier this year.

I basically enjoyed the show, it's long actually 100mins... but it gets me gripped and hooked. I like it.

Go watch it for a dose of english humor...

Julia & Julie

Watched on 15 Oct @ Cineleisure lvl 9

This is my type of movie, cos it involves food!! and it praises the wonderful beauty of food. Lot's of delicious food on cameo, hahaa.. Yum!

This movie is actually an adaptation of 2 true stories, first one is an autobiography of Julia Child, played by Meryl Streep, "My Life in France". The other is a blog or memoir by Julie Powell, in which she challenges herself to finish all the Recipes in Julia Child's cookbook, 524 recipes in 365 days.

The stories basically revolves around these 2 unrelated ladies going thru tough times in their lives and somehow FOOD, just made everything better. And how they manage to turn their lives around with food. Interestingly, the 2 stories are set in 2 different time frames, about 2 different and unrelated people, yet they do have so much in common. It's nice I tell you.

Pay attention to the script, witty lines are of plenty.

Post Bangkok

4 days 3 nights in bangkok.. it was a nice break from work... but the irony is that I'm still doing work at the end of everyday.. thankfully for internet access at the hotel.. I was able to cram some work in every nite.

My main aim for this trip was actually to tailor-make some shirt and pants. The results are pretty good.. 4 shirts and 2 pants, cost me abt S$300, so it was actually quite worth it. Apparently that tailor which qingwen introduced, it's popular with many singaporeans. Perhaps the quality speaks for itself.

The flight there was really short, but cathay still serves proper meals.. not bad.. the flight back seemed even shorter cos the flight attendants were in a hurry to serve and pack the food. The moment all the food was retrieved, the captain announced the descent into singapore airport. hahaa.. race against time..

Bangkok's weather is really worst that singapore, when it's hot it's burning, when it rains, it POURS!! And their shopping centres are still turning their air-cons to the max, they have yet convert to the "energy saving" 25 degrees yet.. hahaa..

Made a trip down to chatuchak as well, haven been there for a while, it was yanli's first time there.. i think there really aint much changes since the last time I went, and with platinum mall now selling at similar prices in the heart of the shopping district, chatuchak is losing the war....

photos will be up soon....

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 3D

Watched on 11 Oct @ Cathay AMK

This ia a animated film which originated from a children's storybook of the same name. The storyline is simple and follows that norm of children storybooks, simple and easy to understand. It's about a young many on a tiny island famous for sardines, trying to get out of his sardines lifestyle pursuing his inventor dream. And when he finally though his invention is working and he gets famous, things go very very wrong...

What I like about the movie?

I like the 3D, I just like the feeling of falling food, oversized food falling from the sky. It's a DREAM COME TRUE!! hahaa.. But I do have reservations about the jello house, not my cup of tea... Still I like falling food.. hehe..

What I couldnt stand??

Not Sure if it's the movies or the cinema, I just find the 3D movies we have are just not 3D enough, you can see the depth in the pictures, but there's still no "jummping at you" feeling.

Overall it's an entertaining show, makes you feel good after a long tough day...

Favourite Lines:

Earl Devereaux: You see this contact lens?
Flint Lockwood: Yeah?
Earl Devereaux: This contact lens represents you! And my eye represents my eye!
[Puts on contact lens]
Earl Devereaux: I've got my *eye* on you!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sam Sparks: You may have seen a meteor shower, but I bet you've never seen a shower "meatier" than this.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Earl Devereaux: I know we all blame Flint for this. In fact, the minute he steps out of that car, I'm gonna slap him in the face. He made a mess of things, but that mess was made to order, and it's time we pay the bill.

Surrogates

Watched on 3rd Oct @ The Grand Cathay

This movie actually had quite a build up to it's opening. So I was looking forward to a COOL movie. But in the end, it was not fantastic, it's good but just not fantastic. Maybe i'm just expecting too much from it. I think this movie is a product of people starting to shun away of AI. AI is hard to control, so we control the robots ourselves.

The story is about a world where humans are ALL couch potatoes. They spend their lifes at home controlling robots to do everything they wanna do. So there's practically no more humans in the streets, only lookalikes that are remotely controlled by couch-potato humans.

What I like about the story is that, there's a documentary like start to the show, kindda explains the history of how the surrogates came about. But common to these genre of movies, it only raise more questions that requires answers. That's the bad part about it, there's just too many questions in my head at the end. It's IRRITATING!!

The visual effect are cool, but it's the usual stuff, nothing new and out of this world.
