The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

Watched @ GVmax

3rd installment of the twilight saga. The problem about these sagas and trilogies or what not. It makes watching the movie feel like watch an episode of a serial. It just feels wrong!! I want a start, build up, climax, and conclusions.. but when in comes like this. There's no end to look forward to, cos we know it doesnt end here and u have to look forward to the next episode. AARRGGGhhh!!! We are being led on!! oh well.... that's life...

anyway, the movie's not bad.. met the usual expectations. it's as it was before, jus like a another episode of the series. But I wanna add, I like ALICE more than bella! hahaa..

Knight and Day

Watched @ Cathay Downtown East

Comedic action thriller which will leave you very lost for the most of the movie. BUT!! this is not the kind of movie you watch for the story line. Watch it for the comedy, watch it to be disgusted how cool tom cruise can still act like. Oh not to mention the camera angles which have to be constantly adjusted to make him look like he's taller than Diaz. Put aside the vague plot and pointless twists, it's actually entertaining!! Muahahaa...

Favourite Lines:

Milner: [from trailer] Some people are gonna come looking for you now.
June Havens: Why?
Milner: They'll tell you I'm mentally unstable and violent and dangerous and it will all sound very convincing.
June Havens: I'm already convinced.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
June Havens: [from trailer] The pilots are dead!
Milner: Yeah, they've been shot.
June Havens: By who?
Milner: By me. No, actually, I shot the first pilot then he accidentally shot the second pilot. It's just one of those things.

Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time

Watched @ Cathay Downtown East

This movie is adapted from a very popular video game. A classic video games makes it to the big screen once again. I loved the parkour like jumping actions thru-out the movie, those are exactly the type of actions players of the prince of persia games hopes to achieve. Super cool.

The Rebound

Watched @ PPStream

A love story about a woman with 2 children who just got divorced and a younger man who just got jilted. It's a simple and straight forward love story. No huge bad guys in this story, it's all sweet and inspiring for the most of it.

Simply nice and entertaining.

Up in The Air

Watched @ Funshion

The story is basically about Ryan (George Clooney), a guy that flies about more than staying put; a guy who flies about just to fire people the company management are too chicken to. To me it's an interesting plot to begin with, hell I never knew you can have a job out of firing someone. Anyway, it's an interesting plot, Ryan is a loner, who is trying to deceive himself that he is alright being alone, and he even sidelines by going around teaching people how it is alright to be alone.

Natalie (Anna Kendrick), the understudy to Ryan, trying to learn the real meaning of firing someone while she tries to organise the whole process into some clockwork procedure. Ryan has a theory that firing someone is not just "firing" someone, it encompasses much more, and it's something very personal and have to be handled with care. Ain't that an irony with his "it's alright to be alone" attitude, once again, it's interesting.

A-list actors provided A-list acting, it's very believable at the end of the day. That's what makes movies good.

Favourite Lines:
Ryan Bingham: [on getting through airport security] Never get behind old people. Their bodies are littered with hidden metal and they never seem to appreciate how little time they have left. Bingo, Asians. They pack light, travel efficiently, and they have a thing for slip on shoes. Gotta love 'em.

Natalie Keener: That's racist.
Ryan Bingham: I'm like my mother, I stereotype. It's faster.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alex Goran: What a weasly prick.
Natalie Keener: Yeah, but what does that make me? Someone who falls for a prick.
Alex Goran: We all fall for the prick. Pricks are spontaneous, they're unpredictable and they're fun. And then we're surprised when they turn out to be pricks.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ryan Bingham: You know why kids love athletes?
Bob: Because they screw lingerie models.
Ryan Bingham: No, that's why we love athletes. Kids love them because they follow their dreams.

Dear John

Watched @ GV Marina

A long story about a lightning fast love at first sight between 2 individuals. The story begins pre-Sept11, and when all seems to be flowing towards a happy ending, fate steps in and brings them Sept11. But that's not the end, fate seems to like to visit this ill-fated couple more than others.

The good thing about such romance flicks, it's not difficult to act it well, you just need to have experience in love, and nowadays, who doesnt?? especially people who looked like them!!

However, it's still a touching story, and I liked the final seemingly happy ending.

Julia & Julie

Watched on 15 Oct @ Cineleisure lvl 9

This is my type of movie, cos it involves food!! and it praises the wonderful beauty of food. Lot's of delicious food on cameo, hahaa.. Yum!

This movie is actually an adaptation of 2 true stories, first one is an autobiography of Julia Child, played by Meryl Streep, "My Life in France". The other is a blog or memoir by Julie Powell, in which she challenges herself to finish all the Recipes in Julia Child's cookbook, 524 recipes in 365 days.

The stories basically revolves around these 2 unrelated ladies going thru tough times in their lives and somehow FOOD, just made everything better. And how they manage to turn their lives around with food. Interestingly, the 2 stories are set in 2 different time frames, about 2 different and unrelated people, yet they do have so much in common. It's nice I tell you.

Pay attention to the script, witty lines are of plenty.

Management

Watched on 23 Aug 09 @ GV Vivocity

A romantic comedy was the description by GV. BUT!! It's really only romantic in small parts comedic in even smaller parts. But again, that's not to say that this is a bad movie. It's just somewhere between average & more average. I bet i'll forget abt it after a while.

The lead, Mike is the main romantic component of the movie, yet he does do it the classic romantic way. It's his give it all for love, regardless anything actions that make him romantic.

Comedically, Al who played Mike's good friend and only showed up past halfway thru the show, is the spark of comedy.

A huge thing i dun really like abt this movie is that, the story likes to jump. It's like the director has the "click" remote control, and he keeps pressing skip!!

What I like abt this show, it's a positive movie. The underlying meaning I find is that, many people are stuck at some point in their life. But being stuck is not the end, we just have to learn to move on.

The Proposal

Watched on 16th Aug 2009 @ The Cathay

This is a GREAT movie to watch to cheer yourself up!! It's really funny, but not lame. It's actually believable. Great acting, especially by Ryan Reynolds who plays Andrew Paxton. Sandra Bullock does look a tad old, but perhaps that's needed for her character. Successful & "old"?

Beyond the acting, I think we should really credit the scriptwriters for this one. The lines are fantastically witty. It's so well written you can enjoy the show by purely listening.

So my recommendation is simple, WATCH IT!!

Spikefire ratings:
Story & Plot: 8.5 out of 10
Audio & Visual: 7 out of 10
Overall: 8 out of 10

Favourite Lines:
Andrew Paxton: [referring to the story about how he proposed to Margaret] You know what? Actually, Margaret loves telling this story, so I'm just gonna let her go ahead and do that. We should just sit and rapture.
Margaret Tate: Wow, okay... wow, where to begin... the story... Well, um, wow... Okay, well, um, Andrew and I... Andrew and I were about to celebrate our first anniversary together and I knew that he'd been itching to ask me to marry him and he was scared, like a little tiny bird. So, I started leaving him little hints here and there because I knew he wouldn't have the guts to ask...
Andrew Paxton: That's not exactly how it happened.
Margaret Tate: No?
Andrew Paxton: No, no, I mean I picked up on all of her little hints... this woman is about as subtle as a gun. Yeah, no what I was worried about was that she might find this little box...
Margaret Tate: Oh, the decoupage box that he made, where he'd taken the time to cut out twenty little pictures of himself, just pasted all over the box. So beautiful! I opened that beautiful little decoupage and out fluttered these tiny little hand cut heart confettis and once they cleared, I looked down and I saw the most beautiful, big...
Andrew Paxton: ...fat nothing! No ring.
Grandma Annie: No ring?
Grace Paxton: What?
Andrew Paxton: No, but inside that box, underneath all that crap, a handwritten note with the address to a hotel, date and time. Real Humphrey Bogart type stuff. Masculine. Naturally, Margaret, she thought...
Margaret Tate: I thought he was seeing someone else... so it was a terrible time for me, but I went to that hotel anyway, I went there and I pounded on the door. But the door was already unlocked. As I swung open that door, there he was...
Andrew Paxton: Standing.
Margaret Tate: Kneeling.
Andrew Paxton: Like a man.
Margaret Tate: On a bed of rosebuds, in a tuxedo. Your son. Your son... and he was choking back soft, soft sobs. And when he held back the tears and finally caught his breath, he said to me...
Andrew Paxton: 'Margaret, will you marry me?' and she said 'yep', the end!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Margaret Tate: I am not getting in that boat!
Andrew Paxton: Fine, see you in three days.
Margaret Tate: You know I can't swim!
Andrew Paxton: Hence... the *boat*.

Threads of Destiny

Watched on 1st July 2009
@ Cineleisure Lvl 9

This is a nice Japanese romance flick. It pretty much the opposite of a fairy tale. So far opposite that it is as good as a fairy tale. It's abt a couple who are seemingly destined to be together, yet trials and tribulations somehow kept them apart. It's sad and at the same time still very romantic.

I have no idea why i like it. I just do.

Side story, this movie has a parallel series that is available as well. It's call Akai Ito, same plot same cast, I think i'll like it just as much. Have yet to watch it. But I believe it's available somewhere online.

Ghost of Girlfriends Past

Watched on 12th Jun 2009
@ Cineleisure Lvl 4

Remember Charles Dicken's "A Christmas Carol"? I'll admit I did not remember!! hahaa. I never read the book, only watch movies adapted from it. All I remember was the scrooge who hates christmas and 3 ghosts appear on chrismas eve to try to convince him otherwise.

Well, this movie plays along the same line, except the scrouge is an ultra playboy who hates love. And the ghosts here are trying to convince him otherwise. I knew this was going to be the main flow of the movie even watching it and I guess I was somehow expecting something new or some twists to bring the movie to the next level.

Disappointingly, I think this movie doesnt offer much except for the same laughs and comedy that you would see from the old "a christmas carol" novels or movie remakes. A tinch of romance was added to try to spark things up, but nope.. not there.

It's pretty much like a disney kids movie. It's still enjoyable an entertaining, IF YOU HAVE NOTHING ELSE BETTER TO DO!!!

Oh my fave part of the movie? The secretary! She's the SPARK!!

Spikefire ratings: 6 out of 10>

Favourite Lines:

Connor Mead: Someone once told me that the power in all relationships lies with whoever cares less, and he was right. But power isn't happiness, and I think that maybe happiness comes from caring more about people rather than less...

17 Again

Do you know when you worst moment in your life is?? Wouldnt it be nice if you get a 2nd chance at that worst decision u think u've made in your life?

That's the story of "17 Again" starring Zac Efron and also my fave Eurotrip star, Michelle Trachtenberg. Of cos there are other stars, but who cares? haha..

This is not just another teen flick, it's a serious movie about making the right choices.

NAH!!

It is a teen flick..

But teen flicks are entertaining and this movie has done that very well. Real conry bits here and there. Watch out for the goofy elven talk. haha.. pretty cool i tell you.

8 out of 10, it serves it's full purpose as a comedy and teaches some good moral lessons, that's if you are ever going to pay attention to them.

Well if u didnt, the moral of the story is, "Dun dwell into your bad decisions, STOP IT!! Or you will miss out on the best decision you'll ever make!!"

Favourite Line:

Ned Freedman: It's a classic transformation story. Are you a Norse God?
Mike O' Donnell: No?
Ned Freedman: Are you or have you ever been a time traveling cyborg or a vampire?
Mike O' Donnell: I have know you since what, first grade? I think that maybe I would have told you!
Ned Freedman: Vampire wouldn't tell, Cyborg wouldn't know.

License To Wed

A Reverend Frank (Robin Williams) puts an engaged couple, Sadie & Ben (Mandy Moore and John Krasinski) through a grueling marriage preparation course to see if they are meant to be married in his church. This is not just a typical romance flick, you add in Robin Williams, you get a HILARIOUS Romantic flick.

Basically i decided to watch this show because of Robin Williams, he's a great entertainer.

Secret - 不能说的秘密

Jay Chou's latest involvement in the movie industry. It's a romantic love story, with the usual corniness which made him so unique. It's a movie with Jay Chou written all over, it seriously seems like Jay is fulfilling some childhood fantasy of his in this movie. It just made him look damn good... But!! This is a good movie to watch, the romantic essence of the movie will just make you go "aawwwww"..
