Lucy - Mind Blown!!

Firstly I must say that this review is done without any verifications of the facts and figures used in the movie. Sometimes ignorance just makes the movie that much more enjoyable. The movie is done in a way that I felt like I'm going through a video lecture about the meaning of life. It's mind blowing concepts that are put forth that grips me. Throughout the movie, I seemed to be trying to validate the hypotheses. But time and again I just stopped the justifying, I just wanted it to be true and want it to happen to me!! How awesome would that be??

I won't be discussing the plot here. I'm more interested in some premises of the function of our brain made in the movie.

First, all cells have only 2 choices in their lifespan. Immortality or reproduction. Without going into the criteria for each choice, I'll just condense it down to, Humans reproduce cos we can't achieve immortality. It is an eventuality that living things will one day gain sufficient knowledge to make the other choice.

Secondly, the purpose of reproduction is for the passing of knowledge. Our cells hold infinite knowledge which we are not accessible to. Reproduction passes these encrypted information onwards. We may not know what information we hold in our cells, but the info is there!!

Third, it was hypothesized that once we are able to attain 20% function of our cerebral capacity. The hurdles will be unlocked, because of ultimate self-awareness. We will be able to "colonise" the remainder of our cerebral functions by brute force.

Fourth, all cells communicate with one another. All information is one and all. This part is very similar to the johnny depp Transcendence.

Fifth, all measures and scales in terms of size and physicality are man-made. This is done for the purpose of framing everything into our limits of understanding. 1+1 has never been nor will ever be 2.

Sixth, time is the only true scale of measure. Without time there's no proof of our existence. I particularly liked the example given. "Imagine a car driving through a frame. Then speed it up infinitely. The car disappears."

Finally, at 100% cerebral function. The final step. Basically, u become god.  Others may have different interpretations of this finale, but here's my take. Approaching 100%, Lucy is already pretty much god-like. At 100%, 3 qualities jumped at me.

1. Know it all!!
2. Omni-presence.
3. No more physical form.

aka GOD!!

So what is the purpose of our life? Regardless what we try to do or what we think we are trying to things for, we are only trying to bring us closer to god. Not closer to the god, but closer to being god.

Daybreakers

Watched @ Funshion

This is not the usual vampire story, vampires are immortals, but killable. They are still afraid of daylight and still feeds on human blood. The story begins in the future where most of the world's population are vampires and are facing a shortage of human blood to feed the vampires. Although the producers are the same ones as Matrix, I think the plot is kindda poor in that sense or maybe vampires are just not as smart as i thought.

Humans are captured and bleed dry for their blood, and when dried, they dispose the human. HOW DUMB IS THAT!!?? Even the Matrix from that long ago has the common sense to keep the humans alive for the extended shelf life. And the vampires in this movie simply used humans like disposables, dumb vamps!! It's probably cos the script was written so so long ago, perhaps way before the matrix and perhaps way before they heard of cloning.

Those are the worst loopholes that have left me utterly disappointed with the plot, otherwise it could have been a much better movie. oh yah, i think the producers also tried very hard to stereotype their vampires, in this movie, they are weak, they just dun age, but they can be killed quite easily.

However, I do like the twist in the vampire legends, vampires can turn back into humans, and man can return a plague of their own back onto the vampires. I liked that part.

Gamer

Watched on 10th Sept @ The Cathay

This is a movie about the future of interactive gaming. What's the next step from controlling virtual avatars?? Well, controlling avatar that are real humans. It's really an intersting concept, and a rather attractive one. It seems that a person can control another in this "virtual" world and do watever they one and not be punished for it. Cool Eh??

It seems to me that the future of ours may not be as cheerry as it once was. Degeneration seems to be the path we are wlking into. This is the 2nd movie I've seen that depicts the future and a rather degenerated world. You will notice the emphasis on sex more than anything else. Sex sells... So is porn the faster growing industry in the world now??

Anyway, about this movie. Gerard Butler plays a death row convict who took part in some sort of a lottery to gain his freedom. The catch is that anytime during this lottery he may die. As the story unfolds, it turns out that the mastermind behind the virtual reality, is once again the bad guy!!

I personally find it funny that in this movie, hackers are actually pretty lousy. So they were not the ones who save the day. It's more of bad guys hitting the self-destruct button in the end.

20th Century Boys 2 - The Last Hope

Watched on 10th Jul 2009
@ GV Vivocity

Part of of a very popular Japanese Manga, I watched this movie with the feeling of watching a serial, cos I know there's no distinct ending yet. It's just the interim events that would lead to to grand finale. It's not too bad, there's a few small revelations, not much twists to the storyline, still flowing in the the rather obvious flow.

But somehow I'm really looking forward to the next episode, I really just wanna find out who "friend" is. And what would happen to the world.

It's a must watch if you watched the first episode, cos too much ??? are left hanging since the last movie. Now for the finale show... it's coming out in late august.. that's good.. no need for a long wait.. :)

Terminator : Salvation

Watched on 30th May 2009
@ Cineleisure lvl 9

Storyline of this 4th installation revolves around 2 characters. The familiar John Connor and the pivot of this installation, Marcus Wright. The timeline is in the future, continuing from T3, Judgement Day has passed and humans are fighting a semmingly futile war against the machines. John is not the leader of the resistance, NOT YET.

There is much nostalgia in watching this new movie. Many parts of the show reminds you of Arnold Schwarzenegger in the first 2 installments. I liked that. I also like the fact that the show somehow proposes that humans can win the war, cos humans are not robots, and the human heart is stronger than any robot can imagine.

Favourite Lines: (classic Arnold lines reused)

Kate Connor: What should I tell your men when they find out you're gone?
John Connor: I'll be back.

Kyle Reese: Come with me if you want to live.
