This movie is based on a true story. And perhaps cos this story is so true, it gets kindda boring. I had expected this show to be a great battle of wits and epic confrontations between Agent Melvin Purvis, the beginnings of FBI and John Dillinger, public enemy #1.
John Dillinger, played by Johnny Depp in this show, well Johnny Depp is still hell of an actor. The way he plays this character. You remember him for this character, not Jack Sparrow, not the choco factory guy, but just John Dillinger, a wanted criminal. The #1 public enemy, which in this show seems like public favourite for than enemy.
The time was during the Great Depression, the americans liked the outlaws more than the government, who kindda sucked at that point in time.
Aside from great acting from all of the actors, there really aint much twists or turns in this story, so in the end it felt like I've just watched a documentary rather than a movie. The bad guy aint that smart after all. Cos they all die.

Favourite Lines:
John Dillinger: I was raised on a farm in Morrisville, Indiana. My mama ran out on us when I was three, my daddy beat the hell out of me cause he didn't know no better way to raise me. I like baseball, movies, good clothes, fast cars, whiskey, and you... what else you need to know?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
John Dillinger: We don't work with people we don't know. And you don't work when your desperate. Walter Dietrich. Remember that?
John 'Red' Hamilton: Walter forgot. When your desperate, that's when you got no choice.

One of my abilities I seemed to have developed is to be able to see from different angles. Sometimes it's helpful, sometimes it's just bothersome. There isnt always time to share with friends. So this is where I vent. Simple as that. Just for sharing. Don't take it to heart!!

FYP
Been stuck with this for a while. Filming has begun thankfully, however that doesnt solve anything as yet. I still need to find o ut how to use the data which I gathered, which may or may not be useful at all in the first place. How does everyone do their FYP?
It seems like the way to do it is to constantly pester your Prof. And I have not been doing that, hence giving him a super easy time in the past but times have changed! Muahahaa.. after being pushed by my Prof of Civil Eng Undergrad studies, I'm suppose to see my Prof every week and pester him till i'm done!
Great! That will mean I must double up my progress otherwise I'll have nothing to show. Nothing to ask.. Nothing to say... :P

This movie can be described simply with a few words "I AM GLAD I DID NOT GO TO THE CINEMAS FOR THIS ONE!!". This movie is a huge disappointment. It seems like things are getting from bad to worst for Will Ferrell, from Brothers to this.. it's nothing but downhill...

Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince
Watched on 18 Jul 2009 @ GvMax
The 6th year of Harry Potter in Hogwarts, it's really amazing how this book still remains in the kids section in the national library! I think it's a much more mature book now than it start off to be, likewise for the movie. Although they are technically underage wizards and witches in the show, the things they handle and deal with are way beyond their age group!!
I find myself in the biggest screen in Singapore watching this installment. I thought it would be a good choice, unfortunately, having a big screen doesnt mean having good quality. I think the visual effects are quite blurry, damn disappointed abt that.
Story and plot wise, cos i did not read the book, I rely on the movie for the flow and content. I think the flow was kindda slow in the second half of the movie. It took pretty long for Dumbledore to die, and the movie doesnt really show much of the impact that the half-blood prince has on Harry Potter, perhaps the book doesnt either.
Ron is still the joke of the series, if you ask me. That's his main purpose in this movie, while Hermione & Ron are having their own relationship side story. Funny and infuriating sometimes.
Overall, the movie only serves as a prelude to the final chapter, watching it only makes me wanna watch the finale 2 installments even more. YES, they are splitting the finale into 2 movies!! :P MONEY GRUBBERS!!

(Ron being Love Potion'd)
Ron Weasley: It's beautiful, isn't it? The moon.
Harry Potter: Divine. Had ourselves a little late night snack, did we?
Ron Weasley: It was on your bed, the box, I just thought I'd try one.
Harry Potter: Or twenty.
Ron Weasley: I can't stop thinking about her, Harry.
Ron Weasley: Honestly, you know, I reckon she was starting to annoy you.
Ron Weasley: She could never annoy me. I think I love her.
Harry Potter: Oh... brilliant.
Ron Weasley: Do you think she knows I exist?
Harry Potter: Well, I'd bloody well hope so, she's been snogging you for three months.
Ron Weasley: Snogging? Who are you talking about?
Harry Potter: Who are you talking about?
Ron Weasley: Romilda, of course. Romilda Vane.
Harry Potter: Okay, very funny.
Ron Weasley: [throws the chocolates box at Harry]
Harry Potter: What was that for?
Ron Weasley: It's no joke! I'm in love with her!
Harry Potter: Alright, fine, you're in love with her! Have you ever actually met her?
Ron Weasley: No... Can you introduce me?

Song of the Day....

What do you do when you suddenly get a pretty lady working in your office, and she seems to be hitting on you?
STAY AWAY!!!
Sometimes even when you try to stay away, some things you just can't control. No, it's not urges i'm talking abt. It's crazy bitches!!
This movie amplifies mine few lines above to the utmost realism. Beyonce plays the happy wife, Sharon while Ali Larter is, Lisa, well the crazy bitch. It's really amazing how crazy she can get, you can almost change the genre of this movie from dramatic thriller to horror. ALMOST...
However, I have to say Ali Larter did an amazing job making me shudder. Oh MAN she is scary!!!
Well done actors, go catch it. I think it will help couples prevent anything similar from ever happening.
Oh, sidenote, I love the way black women take care of the white women. Watch it and you'll know. :P

The 1 fact I get from this movie is... Sid is a PAIN!!! HUGE PAIN!! ROCK HARD PAIN IN THE ASS!! I personally find that chaaracter very disturbing, I would very much like to kill him. Sloths are lazy creatures, but not dumb!! Sid is an utter IDIOT!!
Ellie, is my favourite character, she is just damn stylo. She knows simply what's right and what's wrong, and no one can stop her from do what she thinks is right. Simply STYLO!
Although I watched the 3D version, I do feel it is rather disappointing. The 3D effects were not very 3Dish, it just gives you the illusion of layered space, but not the rushing out of screen sort of feeling. Perhaps the cinemas in singapore are just not made for 3D movies. There's always the effect stuff keep falling out of the screen, which is bad for a 3D effect, it loses the realism..
I seriously wonder how bad the effect could be if i did not watch it in 3d.
Story wise it's kindda interesting, the plot is not exactly new, but good enough. Entertaining, several very laughable parts in the show which are redeeming for the not-so-good 3D effects.

Buck: [from trailer] Are you ready for adventure?
Crash, Eddie: Yes, sir!
Buck: For danger?

Buck: For death?
Eddie: Uhh, can you repeat the question?

Manny: [Sid guards the three baby Tyrannosaurs from an adult] Sid! Give them to her! She's their mother!
Sid: How do I know she's their mother?
Manny: What do you want, a birth certificate? She's a *dinosaur*!

Diego: That's a tail

20th Century Boys 2 - The Last Hope
Watched on 10th Jul 2009
@ GV Vivocity
Part of of a very popular Japanese Manga, I watched this movie with the feeling of watching a serial, cos I know there's no distinct ending yet. It's just the interim events that would lead to to grand finale. It's not too bad, there's a few small revelations, not much twists to the storyline, still flowing in the the rather obvious flow.
But somehow I'm really looking forward to the next episode, I really just wanna find out who "friend" is. And what would happen to the world.
It's a must watch if you watched the first episode, cos too much ??? are left hanging since the last movie. Now for the finale show... it's coming out in late august.. that's good.. no need for a long wait.. :)

Threads of Destiny - edit
Akai Ito - that's the name of the series version of THREADS OF DESTINY. And you know what? Dun waste your time on this MOVIE!! Just watch the series. BECAUSE it's exactly the same. You will realise how little filming they need to actually do for the movie. Almost 80% was copied from the series.
Nevertheless, this is still a very nice story. So nice that the movie does not do justice even to the series. I wonder how does the original novel even look like. The great thing is that this story does end well, unlike the sad ending which have become a staple in the japanese series diet.
Go watch it. I'll give you the URL!! hehe...

@ Cineleisure Lvl 9
This is a nice Japanese romance flick. It pretty much the opposite of a fairy tale. So far opposite that it is as good as a fairy tale. It's abt a couple who are seemingly destined to be together, yet trials and tribulations somehow kept them apart. It's sad and at the same time still very romantic.
I have no idea why i like it. I just do.
Side story, this movie has a parallel series that is available as well. It's call Akai Ito, same plot same cast, I think i'll like it just as much. Have yet to watch it. But I believe it's available somewhere online.

Transformers, Revenge of the Fallen
Watched on 24th June 2009
@ The Cathay
This sequel follows closely after the events of part 1. Megatron is defeated but not destroyed, but dun be mistaken that this is the revenge of Megatron. I thought so at first, but it appears that Megatron is just a pawn in this installation.
San Witwicky, tries to live a normal like after the events of part 1, do you honestly think it's possible. I like the immediate irony he faces the moment he steps into his new school. See the look on his face. hahah!!
Storyline of this movie follows on a certain parallel to the cartoons I used to watch. "The matrix", this phrase is introduced to me by Transformers so long ago, I almost forgot abt it. Thank god it's not Mr Keanu Reeves.. hahaa.
Action sequences are non-stop. but it seems the producers realised the last one was too much, too fast, too confusing. This time it's actually better and clearer. There are quite a few cool fight scenes among the robots. Which set me wondering, in the cartoon series all i remember are gun fights (laser guns) not so much fist fighting actions. Fists are still more reliable yeah?
Comical parts are still abundant in many parts of the movie. Characters to note for that, Sam's mum, Government Liaison Officer, Bumblebee, Wheeler(a weak tiny robot).
Overal, I like the movie, it's kindda long though, abt 2.5hrs. Perhaps I was tired and watching it at 1am, but in the end, I was just hoping for more. I was expecting there to be another peek for the next episode. NOPE did not get it.. :P
Spikefire ratings: 8 out of 10>
Favourite Lines:
Sam Witwicky: Can you read this?
Skids: Read? Unh uh.
Mudflap: We don't - we don't really do much reading.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wheelie: Is that the best you got, huh? Is that best you can do?
Mikaela Banes: What are you doing here, you little freak?
[Mikeala burns his left eye off with a soldering iron]
Wheelie: That's my eye, you crazy bitch! Easy warrior goddess, I'm just a little salvage scrap drone.
Mikaela Banes: Then I'm your worst nightmare.

Taking of Pelham 1 2 3
Watched on 21st June 2009
@ Downtown East
Story unfolds as a subway train in New York City, is very skillfully hijacked. The Hijacker is a "brilliant" yet hooligan looking John Travolta, while Denzel Washington plays the train network operator who happened to get embroiled in this whole fiasco.
This movie all in all is a narration of an incident. There are tiny clues here and there which sets me thinking of the reason for their actions. But there no conclusion, it's too open ended. The only way to enjoy this show is just watch it without any questions OR simply answer all the questions yourself.
I did the latter, Denzel is a righteous yet guilty person thus his actions. Travolta is just out to get a huge scoop under the blanket of chaos. He almost did, if not for a dumb New York Mayor who suddenly became SMART in the middle of the movie. That's amazing.. hahaa..

I have to confess, once again I did not think much of this movie. It just did not have a good enough poster or trailer or whatever. I was just not attracted at first sight. And once again i'm glad I had actually watched it. It's a choice made out of no choices. Nothing else left to watch. Kinda..
Do not be mistaken that this movie is another romantic "man loves woman, something come in between, they strive and conquer" kind of movie. IT IS NOT!! It's about MAN, yeah, it's all about brotherly love. haha. This movie talks about the relationships of men with other men, hugely explored. And I'm proud to say I can appreciate every one of them.
I find an interesting idea from this movie "men can love women all they want, but men still need men." It's a social thing, some things men just cant do without another men.
Conclusion, great movie. be it for the laughs or the "logics" behind everything. I like it!!

Favourite Lines:
Sydney Fife: Society tells us we're civilized but the truth is we are animals. Sometimes we just have to let it out. Try it.
Peter Klaven: Blaaah!
Sydney Fife: Good. Now gently remove your tampon and try again.

Children of Men (2006)
Watched on 19th June 2009
@ PPStream
I've been watching quite a few movies online thru this program called PPStream. It's quite good actually. They have "new" movies or series updated every now and then. Since this blog is about movies I will not talk about the serials I've watched on it and only focus on movies.
This movie is set in the future 2027, where mankind is on the verge of extinction cos we have lost the ability to reproduce. It's an interesting plot, considering it's a 3 year old movie. But similar plots can be found in Æon Flux. I find watching this movie reminding me alot abt Æon Flux, cloning will be the only future man has if we do not reproduce.
Anyway, back to Children of Men, in a world were there had been no babies for almost 2 decades, a miracle has happened. Kee, a young African somehow got pregnant. And the story flows along the line of bringing her to a group of humanitarians only known as the Human Project.
The whole plot does have a few loopholes here and there, but it is plausible. So I just watched on to see the ending. Well... it's a typical disaster movie ending, people die so people can survive...
Oh I have to mention this, the whole world is IN CHAOS, and UK is the only government left in the world!! HAHAHAA!!! Even Singapore was destroyed, yes we appeared in a newsflash for less than a second..
Spikefire ratings: 6 out of 10>
Favourite Lines:
Theodore Faron: Who's the father?
Kee: Whiffet! I'm a virgin. Nah! Be great, though, wouldn't it? Fuck knows. I don't know half the wankers' names.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kee: Froley.
Theodore Faron: Froley.
Kee: Name my baby Froley.
Theodore Faron: It's the first baby in 18 years. You can't call it Froley.
Kee: Says who?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kee: I want to call her Bazouka.
Theodore Faron: Bazouka?
Kee: You don't like it?
Theodore Faron: I was getting used to Froley.

Drag me to Hell

This is a great horror flick from the director of the modern spiderman, Sam Raimi. Thanks to a pretty interesting review in 8 days, I've watched this film, cos I initially had no intention of watching this horror show. Simply not my type of show. Simply cos 80% of them have lousy plots and even lousier endings. this is an exception. It's actually quite well done.
The horror is intense, and the storyline flows quite smoothly. There are quite a few comical parts. The audience in the cinema were actually very responsive, the laughter and screams of shock were ever present. This is a sign that the show has reached the viewers.
I enjoyed the show very much. And most of all there is a great moral to the story. And left you to find out for yourselves.
Spikefire ratings: 9 out of 10>
Favourite Lines:
Christine: You know it's weird how Shaun waited so many years for her revenge. And on the day before she dies, she finally gets it.
Rham Jas: I think you misunderstood, she didnt do it.
Christine: What do you mean? We saw her banish the spirit with our own eyes.
Rham Jas: She only banished the Lamia from the seanace, the goat was not killed.

Midway thru June
I'm now somewhere in the middle of June and I'm start to worry slightly abt my FYP. BUT BUT BUT.. I'm still confident it will be fine. I'll start soon. haha.
Plans to go Melbourne has been cancelled cos mum's specialist has advised otherwise. I do feel a little shame of having to miss the opportunity to visit Australia for the first time and also try out skiing. BLARDY H1N1!! But cant be helped, i'll be there one day.
I've had my ankle looked at on monday by the chinese physician. The conclusion is that my ankle has a very tight nerve/tendon. And from what she tells me. I believe I need to do my warm up and cool downs more aggressively. high-cut shoes are going to be the IN thing in my shoe cabinets from now on.
I've been making some changes to my room. A Ikea bunk bed which came on tuesday, it's really cool. big enough for 2, thanks to my high ceiling, there's still space to sit up on the top. I shifted my cupboards around and somehow created alot of space. Looks as if I have a mini office in my room. It's quite cool actually. I spent the whole of yesterday doing manual labour, cleaning, shifting, carrying stuff around. it's not done yet.. But when I'm done I believe it's going to look great.
Oh yah, I manage to overtake almost all my friends except silie on RC.. But i'm almost there!! muahaha!!

Remember Charles Dicken's "A Christmas Carol"? I'll admit I did not remember!! hahaa. I never read the book, only watch movies adapted from it. All I remember was the scrooge who hates christmas and 3 ghosts appear on chrismas eve to try to convince him otherwise.
Well, this movie plays along the same line, except the scrouge is an ultra playboy who hates love. And the ghosts here are trying to convince him otherwise. I knew this was going to be the main flow of the movie even watching it and I guess I was somehow expecting something new or some twists to bring the movie to the next level.
Disappointingly, I think this movie doesnt offer much except for the same laughs and comedy that you would see from the old "a christmas carol" novels or movie remakes. A tinch of romance was added to try to spark things up, but nope.. not there.
It's pretty much like a disney kids movie. It's still enjoyable an entertaining, IF YOU HAVE NOTHING ELSE BETTER TO DO!!!
Oh my fave part of the movie? The secretary! She's the SPARK!!

Favourite Lines:
Connor Mead: Someone once told me that the power in all relationships lies with whoever cares less, and he was right. But power isn't happiness, and I think that maybe happiness comes from caring more about people rather than less...
