I got my first aid certification and it comes in a tiny little card!! looks unreliable if you ask me. hahaa..

From now to CNY, it's housekeeping time!! ANd also time to cycle down to TJC everyday.

Sawadee 2010 pt2

Dinner at Fuji Japanese restaurant yesterday was quite good, cheap as well. Oh the wasabi is the freshly grated type, so quality is apparent here and also gives a greater kick compared to the usualy powdered one we are used to back in singapore. & of us ate quite a lot but total was not over 5K baht!! oh, mum and keli had lunch at crystal jade which cost just as much for just the 2 of them!!!!

Spa yesterday was quite an experience, scary too. The place was nice and classy, I did mine in a private room, the masseuse was quite good, and almost every part of the body was taken care of, but i was more in need of a foot massage than full body back then. The Spa is healthland Spa located at Sathorn Road, it's quite a popular place so most tazi drivers actually roughly know where it is, and it's quite easy to recognise, just look out for a big golden bungalow.

Spent the bulk of the day so far at Platinum Mall, Fashion apparels wholesale shopping centre, it's really near our hotel and we really spent alot of time there. And after that long duration, I'm not done with it yet, there are still spots I have not covered!!  bought several tshirts from there for yanli mostly and 1 for myself. I learnt this time that platinum not only has lots of choices for fashion, it's also full of food choices.

Dinner today was at this german beer place recommended by Russel, the food there was not bad, the pork knuckles was really crispy. However, the best part of the place is that it has somehting like a cabaret show going on, a few singers, LOADs of props, cameras, lightings, the whole nine yards. The customers there are also very spontaneous to the performance, many of them are dancing wildly around their tables as the night wore on.

It's the last night in BKK already, I would say so far the purchasing has been fruitful. Good trip so far...

Sawadee 2010

It's my 2nd day in BKK, and I just got back from Chatuchak, the place is still huge, HOT, crowded, Hot, exciting and last but not least HOT! I bought only a few tshirts there, but those are nice tshirts which I had not seen anywhere else so far. So I'm happy with that simple buy.

Yesterday was a hectic day too, set off for here early in the morning and got to the hotel almost noon. bulk of yesterday was spent visiting the tailors for my shirts and suits and pants, thereafter it's shopping, while the rest went to the thai massage at Wat Pho, we stayed shopping at the aircon'd centres.

Den it was to chinatown to get "dog shit"!! Bought loads of them for my house for this cny. Yesterday's dinner was at a rather dodgy chinese seafood restaurant to chinatown, the food was actually good, if not for it's dodgy surroundings and numerous sightings of "xiao qiangs", i would actually visit the place again.

Finale of the night was visiting Suan Lum night market, din not managed to buy anything exciting there except for some small souvenirs. Keli and I did manage to do a 15min fish spa. Those fishes are SUPER hungry for my dead skin!! I seemed to be a good source of it... :P

It's time to leave and head for dinner, followed by Sky Bar, followed by SPA!!

RT Mania pt2

IPPT session today, totally burnt out after the first shuttle run station........ result.. fail...

RT Mania!!

Just finished my 4th straight day of RT. It's kindda crazy as it seems and what's crazier? That's not the end, I still have 2 more consecutive days more of RT sessions. All these cause i'll be missing next week's sessions due to my upcoming thailand trip, so i had to do makeup training sessions. After this 6 days in a row RT mania, I hope earn some leeway to eat up in bangkok. hehee.

RT has been ok so far, training's not extremely tough, but I do find their training quite lousy. The exercises that they are doing are really old school, it's older than my bmt days which was almost 10 years ago. They are doing lunges, both front and back, and squats, all these have been phased out in my bmt training cause of excessive stress on the kneecaps, and yes, my knees are definitely feeling it. OUCH!!

I can feel some stamina building up in me after the runs, especially during this past few days of daily running. Not fast, but at slow speeds I managed to keep jogging for at least 4 rounds.

4 down.. 2 more to go!!

The Blind Side

Watched @ The Cathay

This is one of my favourite movies of recent times. The movie is based on the true story of NFL star Mike Oher. Although I know very little about NFL, I know that sports is one of the channels in USA that black people there can excel in and have more often than not be the catalyst to bring them out of poverty.

The story starts off with a clip of a play in NFL, depicting the importance of the blindside, the quarterback's blindside. That was a real footage and even though we do not see the extend of the damage in the tackle, the player's reaction says it all! And this is the story of NFL's recent greatest protector of the blindside, Mike Oher.

But this is not just about the player becoming a star. It's about the family that he met and learned to love. Sandra bullock, plays the mother, Leigh Anne, of this family, the Touhys. It was a Thanksgiving eve that started the threadings of Mike and the Touhys.

The story of Mike and the Touhys was told in a very touching fashion. Even though I believe much of the facts have be dramatise and idealised, it's still an amazing story to believe in. Watch it to experience it.

Michael Oher: ...A bed.

Leigh Anne Touhy: If you so much as set foot downtown you will be sorry. I'm in a prayer group with the D.A., I'm a member of the NRA and I'm always packing.

Michael Oher: [after pushing an opponent all the way off the field] Sorry coach, I stopped when I heard the whistle.
Coach Cotton: Where were you taking him?
Michael Oher: The bus, it was time for him to go home.

Leigh Anne Touhy: Michael, I want you to have a good time but if you get a girl pregnant out of wedlock, I will crawl into the car, drive up to Oxford and cut off your penis.

Legion

Watched @ Cineleisure lvl 9

I was actually looking forward to watch this movie, most of the movies which have involved paul bettany so far have been not bad. sadly, this time it's not encouraging, his acting was not the issue, is the loose plot. Angels fighting angels, god losing faith in men, doesnt sound all that bad. But the way everything was put together was quite disappointing. There's too much reference that can be seen from history. worst of all was...

It's a waitress who is the target of saving cos she bears the child who would be the saviour. Think terminator. Oh the gun fights remind me of terminator too. The ending also reminds me of terminator, I wonder if they are going to have legion 2.

Notice there's no devils or demons in this movie, why? cos the minions in this movie are angels. So where did all the demons go? on holiday, since now angels are doing their job of possessing and killing. :P

First Aid @ SJAB

for the past 3 days I've been attending a day course at the St John's ambulance HQ at beach road. Why? cos i'm trying to get my first aid certification so that I could register myself as a coach at SSC. It took me quite a few years since my coaching cetification to come for this course, inertia I guess. But now since i'm quite free, it's time.

total cost was around S$115 inclusive of 3 days parking at the HQ. the course runs thru 3 days from 8.30am to 4.30pm. I think we were lucky to have a pretty experienced teacher. He's a volunteer at SJAB, long time volunteer. He's 83 on wednesday and he was involved in the hotel new world collapse rescue operation. That was like ancient already. But yah, along with experience also comes lots of war stories which he likes to narrate every now and then, that's when I start falling asleep.

Over the course of 3 days, I'm confident i've equipped myself with sufficient knowledge to administer at least some first aid which situation happens. But the real question here is, given the the knowledge of giving first aid, would you do so? That's a question that the teacher has subtlely ask many times (oh yah, he has a knack of give "subtle" hints.) When a situation happens, would you react immediately to help or would you rather be a "stamford raffles" to just stand there and watch instead of lending a helping hand. seriously I think in singapore, people love stamford raffles ALOT!!!

The Spy Next Door

Watched @ Cineleisure lvl 9

Just catched the show late last night, and surprisingly the cinema is a full house on a monday midnite session. Even though the cinema has nothing more than 10-12 rows, a full cinemas once again prove that there are LOADs of Jackie Chan fans in singapore. WOAH!!

The plot of the story is quite solid, cause it's simple and logical. Although I'm not sure about CIA ever loaning agents from China, especially in this currently political climate. Well, let's says it's plausible. hahaa.

The introduction into the movie was a short clip of Jackie Chan's poast movies, that was pretty cool. He has really done many movies with similar themes. Comedy is always present in his movies. In this one, the action is still quite amazing given his age.

Therefore, simple watch and enjoy.

Treasure Hunter (刺陵)

Watched @ GV Marina

Treasure hunter is a movie you really shouldnt watch if you are looking for a plot in the story. The plot is really weak, when you compare with the western movies like mummy and indiana jones, treasure hunter is really weak, pointless and broken.

As for the acting, jay chou and lin chiling are not exactly the best actors around. looks and style are their main selling point, the movie is bordering on comedy. the desert scenes offer not much value to the whole story, it's just dusty & more dust flying around.. WEAK!!

There's much hype on the visual effects, but seriously, good effects need  to be there for a purpose that supports the plot. With the weak plot, the effects are just there trying to bulk up the movie on it's substance. simply saying, the effects are not bad but falls flatly in the movie plot.. conclusion... WEAK!!!

Life after NUS

Life after NUS have been good so far. Small events happen every now and then. So it's time to recollect and lay them out.

  • RT have been manageable so far,
  • I learnt how to arrange for Make-up training
  • I have MIO Tv at home, but there's nothing interesting to watch. It's for the soccer which will start next season anyway.
  • I've arranged for my first aid course and it will be start next tues to thurs, 3 full days of course. After which I'll make myself available on GeBiz as a volleyball coach.
  • I went to Body Worlds to look at plastinated human bodies!! I missed it the last time it was here. They really looked cool. Some how the more I look that those bodies, the more i'm reminded of "bak gua"!! BUT I personally find the exhibit not as "WOAH" as it was promoted to be. Interesting, yes. Cool, yes. Woah?? NOPE...
  • Haven been to any movies in more than a week!! Kindda sad abt that, cos my dear is so busy last week. Hopefully it will be better from now on.
  • Went to Xiaowen's place for gathering, Potluck. I made Cheese Baked Rice. It was well received. I think I can replicated what I did if needed, but the flavours might change though. Anyway, her house was HUGE, it was the old type of mansionette. They got it for a very very good deal! Good for them.
  • Tenghui & Fuliang are getting married too, looks like my cchs gang is getting tied down pretty fast. It all started with jimmy. hahaa..
  • Planning to make a short trip to BKK before CNY to buy clothes for work and CNY.
  • Spent a night at Down Town East chalet after dear's event there. I was totally reminded why we have not gone to a chalet for so so so long!! It's small, dark, dirty & noisy....

RT aka Remedial Training

Remedial Training is sort of like a punishment implemented to make NSmen like myself, who failed ippt, to get some physical training. Going for RT made me feel like returning to BMT once again. The anxiety, the fear, the pain and the aches all returning to me at once.

I find that I am now much less fit than the time I was first enlisted. Physical training is straining my every muscle group. After the warm-ups, i'm already drained!!

RT is a good thing for me, I'm using this chance to lose some weigh and get some momentum going for exercise. I'm taking it slow though, physically my body cant take extreme, i've enrolled myself with the obese gang and go for a less strenuous training regime. But i'll up the ante as soon as I can, cycling to Bedok camp for future trainings and extra day of self training is in the pipeline.

Bye 2009 & Hello 2010!!

2009 has bee a pretty good school year for me. At times I really struggled, but somehow I survived. I did not do exceptionally well, but enough for me to scrape trhu with a passable degree. That's simply my biggest and ultimate goal for 2009, I guess have achieved it to some extent.

physically, it's still a pretty bad year for me. injuries and physical inertia are frequently popping up on my schedule to do anything. maybe it's just in my mind, mind of matter people say, easier said than done I say.

With this new year, I simply do not know if i'll love it or hate it. Love it cos it's a new beginning and options are wide open for me to do almost anything. yet anything doesnt really seem possible. while living in singapore gives me a planned out and lazy life if I chose it, which I have been choosing all my life. It now ends, and I have to choose a path.

look for work? a somewhat permanent one to get my income steady.

or spent the years I have left in this "energetic" body for some adventure?

volleyball is something i've been shunning in the past year. not committed to it at all in the past year. perhaps it's also time to pick it back up again.

so many choices, so many possibilities, so little in my head moving to make a decision.

So i'm going to do things the way I always do. Take things in my stride, when they fall in front of me, then it's time to do them.

Alvin & The Chipmunks 2

Watched @ GV Marina

The only reason why someone would watch this movie is to enjoy the squeeky songs of the chipmunks. And I happen to be one of those 'someone's, this sequel features the female counterparts of the chipmunks. I seriously never knew they were called the chippettes.

There's only 4 points I would like to share abt this movie and that should sum up everything.

  1. Simon and Jeanette, are so BRAINY!!
  2. Alvin & Britney, just cool and stylo, but not really my type.
  3. Theodore & Elenore are super cute and FAT!
  4. I simply love they squeeky songs!! hehee

Oh 1 last thing, Zachery Levi, is still funny like he was in Chuck! It's pretty much Chuck in Chipmunks.

Sherlock Holmes

Watched @ GVMax

Sherlock Holmes is already UBER well-known before this movie. SO how it it going to gain the recognition from the masses or even left a mark on their memories? Well, they re-vamp the image of Holmes, that's how. Now holmes is iron man without the armor, much more rugged and watson is just as much a fighter as holmes.

It's a refreshing twist to the usually pipe smoking nerdy holmes we are accustomed to. I liked it, I know some who didnt. Holmes retains his usual sceptism in magic and the paranormal, there's always a reason and method about how things are done.

And I really liked the way how he analyses each match ending move just before he excutes it. COOL! hahaa. Rachel McAdams plays somewhat a nemesis and love interest of holmes. Somehow I just did not like McAdams, it's just me, wanting to slap her no matter what. So what ever comment I have about her is simply... Biased.

Jude Law playing Watson was really a apt, he successfully portrays the cynic in everything holmes does. And yet somehow ends up being the bitch who totally listens to holmes and led on by him. HAH!!

entertaining is what this movie is, however the ending is somewhat... "what!!?? I have to wait for Sherlock Holmes 2!!??"

Bodyguards & Assasins

Watched @ Cineleisure lvl 4

All star cast in this movie about 1 significant event in the revolutionary years of China. Bodyguards here are people who protect Sun Yat Sen in his crucial trip to Hong Kong to meet and liase with fellow revolutionaries. Interesting to know is that even though the bodyguards in this movie were almost wiped out, close to none actually knew who they were suppose to protect, nor why. They just did it.

It's pretty much based on historical events, not sure if the names and background behind each character is accurate, but it fulfills the purpose of bring forward the images of the unsung heroes in the long journey of China's revolution.

Oh, it also shows be it on purpose, how utterly useless and brainless the ailing qing dynasty was at that point in time.

However, I do find some of the protection strategy they were using were seriously DUMB!!!!! I would have totally done it in a different way.

Avatar (3D)

Watched @ GV Grand

This movie has generated SO MUCH HYPED, it's impossible to even try to miss it. James Cameron has once again served up a movie blockbuster. Like he said in some many of those interviews on TV, it's really so difficult to come up with something new in movies. Harder still to come up with something new and AWESOME!!

The plot of Avatar is actually quite simple, humans found life on another planet and also some very valuable minerals which they wanna harvest. The only thing stopping them are the natives, the Na'vi and they are tough nuts to crack. So they go to war, and the ultimate weapon for humans are a band of genetically engineered Na'vi bodies (avatars) which can be remotely controlled by humans.

Well as with all things genetically engineered, they go wrong. But in this case, it went wrong for a good cause. The avatar pilots changed sides, as they grew close to the na'vi, and found a greater cause to fight besides for $$$!!

Action and effects wise, there's really nothing better. It's state of the art and the scenaries created in the movie are simply WOAH!! This is a movie that MUSt be watched in 3D, and an advice when watching 3D, the best seats are in front!!

My favourite part of the movie, the plug&play tails of the Na'vi tribe. Also love the way nature interacts with the Na'vi. It kindda reminds me of Final Fantasy 7, energy of life never dies, it gets recycled into the life stream which supports the world and new life.

Lesbian Vampire Killers

Watched @ PPStream

Basically this show is so BAD!! so bad, the lesbians are pretty much the only watchable thing the whole movie. I think UK movies have big issues with comedy, they just cant do it. The only comedy they come up with nowadays are C-rate movies like this one. Shitty, the plot is really really lousy, except for a few lame laughs there's not much to it. Oh btw, this movie features one of the WEAKEST vampires ever to hit the screen. Perhaps even the zombies in zombieland were harder to kill.

Zombieland

Watched @ Cineleisure lvl 4

Pure zombie entertainment. The show is kindda like a narration of a survival of a few people in the US which has been totally zombified. The actors in this film are actually A-listers, not the kind you would find in a usually B-rate film. I guess they made the flim really enjoyable and watchable. But first I have to say, zombies are totally not scary, they are grossed but not scary, just imagine semi-paralysed and senile. HAHAHA!!

It even shows Bill Murray as himself in the movie, what a joke!! This movie had us laughing from start till the end. Especially with the lame "rules" in order to stay alive. Think about "seatbelts" & "sunscreen" lame shit!!

Pure entertainment, nothing else to it, it's not there to make sense. Just for laughs and a few shock moments. Good watch for stress relieve.

Twilight - New Moon

Watched @ The Grand Cathay

This is 2nd episode to the twilight saga. have not read the book but perhaps like harry potter, watch and not read is probably advisable. twilight 1 is really captivating, new way which the vampire story is told, really attracted the curiosity of movie goers. twilight 2, is not that new anymore, it's a continuation of the storyline.

the werewolf part of the story shld really be the core of this movie. from what i hear about the readers of the book, the bulk of the story should be about the love story of bella and jacob. That was not seen in the movie, sadly it's more about bella going freaky about losing edward and going unscrupulous to see him no matter wat.

But it is still not a bad movie, I still like it and i'm looking forward to the next 2 installments of the series.... i'm quite surprised that dakota fanning was in the movie, TOTALLY did not notice her there.. hahaa...

Oh and I really like Alice!! She is attractive beyond bella...

Finally it's OVER!!

At 11am this morning. I officially completed my last examination in NUS, my FYP presentation. It went quite smoothly, I believe I managed to convince my examiner that I've done loads of work for this project. Well the truth is I only put in moderate work and my report is ultra SHORT!! Somehow people gets the impression I've done alot, not that i'm complaining, maybe moderate to me is alot to others (oh how I hope that's true!!).

The main comments I got for my project is, what's the purpose of my findings, or rather what can it be used for. Due to the ultra focus'd topic which I chose, the purpose is one and simple. Although it does sounds unimpressive in the end, that's the truth of the project, 1 simple purpose drives 1 simple project. what more can I say?? The only thing I said was, given the topic I only have a simple aim, to gain a great profit, i'll have to widen my scope take in much more data and need much much more time. hahaa, I think they bought it. hehe.

Conclusion, I think I made a sales pitch today more than an engine presentation. Wat's left for me is to touch up on my final report and bulk it up more for my final hard cover bounded submission.

BYE BYE NUS (assuming I passed my exams, :P)

Exam Blues

2 papers down, and once again, they feel totally like lost causes. well, u know what? I'm not really complaining. Cos i know how much effort I've been putting into these last hours. I think I see a tendency in myself to start things really well and just lose steam along the way.

1 final paper on monday and FYP presentation on Wed. And that's the END!!!

I tried to pop into Sitex just now. TOO CROWDED!! it's 4pm, dun anyone need to work??? duhzZ...

Final days of Uni ! ?

2 more hrs to NVC final presentation
1 more day to FYP final draft
10 days to 1st exam paper
20 days to FYP final presentation
30 Dec, final action for NUS (thesis hardbound submission)

And now, the end is here
And so I face the final curtain
My friend, I'll say it clear
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain
I've lived a life that's full
I traveled each and ev'ry highway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way

Regrets, I've had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption
I planned each charted course, each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way

Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall and did it my way

I've loved, I've laughed and cried
I've had my fill, my share of losing
And now, as tears subside, I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say, not in a shy way,
"Oh, no, oh, no, not me, I did it my way"

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught
To say the things he truly feels and not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows and did it my way!

Watched @ Cineleisure Lvl 6

Disaster movie, a very long one as well. But it was 2.5hrs of good movie in my eyes. I like the way they planned out the whole plot, it's pretty waterproof for the most parts. Except for the magical ways how the leads somehow get out of ridiculously tight situations.

Pay attention to where the remainder of the world population decides to move to. Notice that continent is somehow not included in the prior plannings of the great excape. WHAT AN IRONY!! hahaa.. but that's life.. I liked that..

A long awaited local production by Glen Goei. This is a black comedy revolving around the death of a wealthy and powerful pineapple tycoon. This is a different form of comedy to the type of local stuff we are so used to with Jack Neo. This is closer to the style of $ell Out, a malaysia production I saw earlier this year.

I basically enjoyed the show, it's long actually 100mins... but it gets me gripped and hooked. I like it.

Go watch it for a dose of english humor...

Julia & Julie

Watched on 15 Oct @ Cineleisure lvl 9

This is my type of movie, cos it involves food!! and it praises the wonderful beauty of food. Lot's of delicious food on cameo, hahaa.. Yum!

This movie is actually an adaptation of 2 true stories, first one is an autobiography of Julia Child, played by Meryl Streep, "My Life in France". The other is a blog or memoir by Julie Powell, in which she challenges herself to finish all the Recipes in Julia Child's cookbook, 524 recipes in 365 days.

The stories basically revolves around these 2 unrelated ladies going thru tough times in their lives and somehow FOOD, just made everything better. And how they manage to turn their lives around with food. Interestingly, the 2 stories are set in 2 different time frames, about 2 different and unrelated people, yet they do have so much in common. It's nice I tell you.

Pay attention to the script, witty lines are of plenty.

Post Bangkok

4 days 3 nights in bangkok.. it was a nice break from work... but the irony is that I'm still doing work at the end of everyday.. thankfully for internet access at the hotel.. I was able to cram some work in every nite.

My main aim for this trip was actually to tailor-make some shirt and pants. The results are pretty good.. 4 shirts and 2 pants, cost me abt S$300, so it was actually quite worth it. Apparently that tailor which qingwen introduced, it's popular with many singaporeans. Perhaps the quality speaks for itself.

The flight there was really short, but cathay still serves proper meals.. not bad.. the flight back seemed even shorter cos the flight attendants were in a hurry to serve and pack the food. The moment all the food was retrieved, the captain announced the descent into singapore airport. hahaa.. race against time..

Bangkok's weather is really worst that singapore, when it's hot it's burning, when it rains, it POURS!! And their shopping centres are still turning their air-cons to the max, they have yet convert to the "energy saving" 25 degrees yet.. hahaa..

Made a trip down to chatuchak as well, haven been there for a while, it was yanli's first time there.. i think there really aint much changes since the last time I went, and with platinum mall now selling at similar prices in the heart of the shopping district, chatuchak is losing the war....

photos will be up soon....

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 3D

Watched on 11 Oct @ Cathay AMK

This ia a animated film which originated from a children's storybook of the same name. The storyline is simple and follows that norm of children storybooks, simple and easy to understand. It's about a young many on a tiny island famous for sardines, trying to get out of his sardines lifestyle pursuing his inventor dream. And when he finally though his invention is working and he gets famous, things go very very wrong...

What I like about the movie?

I like the 3D, I just like the feeling of falling food, oversized food falling from the sky. It's a DREAM COME TRUE!! hahaa.. But I do have reservations about the jello house, not my cup of tea... Still I like falling food.. hehe..

What I couldnt stand??

Not Sure if it's the movies or the cinema, I just find the 3D movies we have are just not 3D enough, you can see the depth in the pictures, but there's still no "jummping at you" feeling.

Overall it's an entertaining show, makes you feel good after a long tough day...

Surrogates

Watched on 3rd Oct @ The Grand Cathay

This movie actually had quite a build up to it's opening. So I was looking forward to a COOL movie. But in the end, it was not fantastic, it's good but just not fantastic. Maybe i'm just expecting too much from it. I think this movie is a product of people starting to shun away of AI. AI is hard to control, so we control the robots ourselves.

The story is about a world where humans are ALL couch potatoes. They spend their lifes at home controlling robots to do everything they wanna do. So there's practically no more humans in the streets, only lookalikes that are remotely controlled by couch-potato humans.

What I like about the story is that, there's a documentary like start to the show, kindda explains the history of how the surrogates came about. But common to these genre of movies, it only raise more questions that requires answers. That's the bad part about it, there's just too many questions in my head at the end. It's IRRITATING!!

The visual effect are cool, but it's the usual stuff, nothing new and out of this world.

Fame

Watched on 29 Sep @ Cathay Downtown East

This is a remake of the 1980 version of "Fame", I have not watched the earlier version, but I do know that it is in the forum of a musical movie. Just think High School Musical with much more talent than singing and basketball. Well, actually they are actually very similar.

The movie casts a group of relative unknowns which is perhaps similar in the 1980 version, I dun recognise any of the names, maybe i'm ignorant. Dun be fooled by the newbies, they are really talented. The actors can really sing, and they can really dance, though i'm not sure abt the directing and producing roles which they play.

The flow, of the movie is kindda irritating, the movie is broken into 4 acts, freshman, sophomore, junior and senior. The link from 1 act to the other is not show, it only shows cuts of events in each year, which really gives me a VERY fragmented and irritating feeling. Not the way I like to enjoy a movie. I would really rather they split the movie like HSM, I would like to know more. Oh yah, not only fragmented, it also feels very rushing, squeezing 4 years into 1 movie.

Spikefire ratings:
Story & Plot: 6 out of 10 (fragmented & rushed)

WhiteOut

Watched on 26 Sep @ The Cathay

This movie was supposed to be an adaptation from a graphic novel, but it does seem to have the captivating pace and intrigue of graphic novels, or maybe that's just my narrow understanding of graphic novels. :P

main selling point for this movie is actually Kate Beckinsale, and the producers make it SO SO obvious by have this scence at the beginning of the movie which shows her stripping and taking a shower. This scene has totally no value to the rest of the movie, ZERO!! but, for male viewers like myself, it aint bad.. hahaa.. you know what?? You can actually leave after the first 10mins. There's nothing too exciting from then on.

As you can tell, i'm kindda disappointed with the movie. The action was kindda slow due to the cold winter, everything gets sloppy, the mystery part was kindda lame, cos you dun really have to solve it. It just seems to keep unfolding and unfolding by itself, which means "I CAN SOLVE THAT TOO!!".

Scariest 30mins of my life!!!

What happened in the last 30mins, totally overshadowed everything else that happened in my life so far. here's the basic summary..

I dropped dear off at her place, I was going to make my way home. I realised this car in her carpark which was not parked and headlights off. But the moment I drove past it, it's headlights came on. And started following me. At that point I did not think it was following me, I shrugged it off as meer coincidence.

After a few more junctions I began to start worrying, I sped up and tried to shake him off. I did a few filtering moves and varied my speed alot. He continued to stick with me. I was freaking out and I was considering 101 reasons why he was following me. I concluded he's looney!!

With that conclusion, I need to shake him off before I could go home. There's no way I was going to lead him straight to my place. So I turned into geylang east and turned abt in the hdb carpark, for a moment I almost lost him. The damn traffic light gave him time to catch up once again!!

I drove out to paya lebar road, and started making a few U-turns, I tried to lost him at the traffic light by turning only at amber, but he beat to red to stay on my tail! damn it! He even turned from the 2 lane!! I was totally freaking out and decided I'm not going to lose this lunatic, it was time for me to do the safe thing.

I decided to turn into geylang police station, but the gate was closed. So I turned into the adjacent alley, he followed me in, but when I turned the car around, he turn out and went into the caltex just next to the alley. I saw him stopped his car in the petrol station waiting for me.

I immediately, turn off the engine and went into the police station. I think I was really freaked out, I was stuttering!! Damn it!! I bet those cops think I was the crazy one at that point. Anyway, I somehow manage to paint the picture to them and got them to follow me to check it out.

The moment we walked out of the station, the driver of that car walked past us towards the station, I told the cop that's the driver. The driver immediately, declared he was the one following me. He was in a tone like he had done no wrong, and was very sure he was after me for some reason.

Bewildered, i simply stared at him. He kindda wanted to confront me and told the cop to lead us back to the station, saying that we have issues to settle. I was getting more and more confused.

Apparent he thinks I'm the boyfriend of his daughter, he thought he saw me sending his daughter home. And apparently, he has issues with daughter not going home and coming home with a different guy often.

And so the cops started asking me abt me and my girlfriend to verify the situation, damn and this guy's surname also ng, just makes things slightly more confusing. Basically, it's a case of mistaken identity, but the course of this ridiculous mistake is really killing me!!!

Even though the cops are sympathetic with that guy's situation, they feel he's just worrying abt his daughter. BUT!!! Obviously, this uncle has communication issues. You dun go about tailgating the guy who sent your daughter home. DUDE, those are not the ones u shld worry, it's those who don't send her home u shld worry about!!! I feel sorry for him now, i think he'll never solve the issue if he carries on in his paranoia....

On a different day I would have just cornered him and confront him face to face instead of going to the cops. And mind you, I really need to shit then!!

Hari Raya Weekend

First I think I should say "Selamat Hari Raya" to all the muslims out there. One observation I found interesting during this weekend. Dear and I conclude there are much fewer muslims in the streets today. Unlike in the past years when we would see many muslims families going visiting, the streets are much emptier this year. And just know I think we found out the reason why it's so. ----- They drive!! There are so much more Muslim drivers, this show that the car sales at Geylang Serai is actually working. hahaha...

IFG volleyball was over on saturday. I really enjoyed it. I think I played with no stressed, thoroughly enjoyed the game and point winning move that we made. It's simply shiok!! Unfortunately, I think that would be my final "competitive" game in NUS. It's time to think about volleyball after NUS. Yeah, gotta find more avenues to play the game.

meanwhile school work is still piling up, I'm trying my best to keep clearing them, but the piling up never ends!!

The Ugly Truth

Watched on 20 Sep @ The Grand Cathay

This is one of the most entertaining romantic comedy of the year!

Gerard Butler in another romantic comedy, but this time he is the badass. It's really not that hard for him to play this part, imagine this role as, a combination of ALL his previous roles! hahaa.

Katherine Heigl well, I think she's kindda typecast. Typical pretty woman, tough yet sensitive. Same old same old... BUT!! It's still good to see her, if you have watched the movie you'll know what I mean. A guy is still just a guy.

This whole show is simply entertaining, lots of laughs. However i'm not sure if it's really funny or really crude that made me and almost everyone else in the cinema laugh like mad. It's entertaining nonetheless.

What I really really like about this show? laughable and crude as it may be, I think it's still successful in the romantic genre, how so? You just know when everyone in the cinema immediately stops laughing and anticipates in silence hoping for the perfect romantic moment to happen. Yes, that's the hallmark of a great romance flick.

And finally I must add, The truth IS ugly, you may hate it but that doesnt mean you won't enjoy or benefit from it.

Gamer

Watched on 10th Sept @ The Cathay

This is a movie about the future of interactive gaming. What's the next step from controlling virtual avatars?? Well, controlling avatar that are real humans. It's really an intersting concept, and a rather attractive one. It seems that a person can control another in this "virtual" world and do watever they one and not be punished for it. Cool Eh??

It seems to me that the future of ours may not be as cheerry as it once was. Degeneration seems to be the path we are wlking into. This is the 2nd movie I've seen that depicts the future and a rather degenerated world. You will notice the emphasis on sex more than anything else. Sex sells... So is porn the faster growing industry in the world now??

Anyway, about this movie. Gerard Butler plays a death row convict who took part in some sort of a lottery to gain his freedom. The catch is that anytime during this lottery he may die. As the story unfolds, it turns out that the mastermind behind the virtual reality, is once again the bad guy!!

I personally find it funny that in this movie, hackers are actually pretty lousy. So they were not the ones who save the day. It's more of bad guys hitting the self-destruct button in the end.

G Force *3D

Watched on 6th Sep @ GV Marina

This is a much anticipated movie, at least for myself it is. I wasnt really expecting much of a fantastic plot of super cool effects. I was just looking for cute guinea pigs to entertain myself with. And I see in that respect, the movie did not disappoint.

The 3D effect in the movie was actually quite cool, cos the 3D was not only on the animated CGI, but also on the real life surrounding and humans. So there was depth in everything. But I have to say, they could have done more cos, that fantastic effect was not throughout the movie, certain parts were 3D pointless, while some parts are just COOL!

These guinea pigs are cooler than the CHIPMUNKS!!

1 thing I really dislike personally, is disney's recent fetish with using cockroaches!! OMG!! why are they depicted like cute and useful!!?? that part totally grossed me out!! TOTALLY!!!

A stressedful week turns out not bad..

This week started off as super stressedful as I was totally stuck on one of my assignments. I was stucked at one step and really couldnt figure my way out of it, I just got so pissed, so frustrated, I stared at it for hours and hours and I'm still stuck!!! I stared at it so much and so long that my other assignments snowballed! That simply compounded my stress further.

Good thing I decided to do this assignment early, I set an assumed deadline for myself on monday, which I COULDNT meet. But I managed to remind myself I would still have time for submission so I let it go first and decided to find some groupmates to discuss the assignment later. It turned out to be a good decision.

I worked on my other assignments and more or less got them done pretty fast. So I was quite happy with myself on that.

When I got to discussed my 1st assignment with my groupmates, I realised I was not the one who's most lost. Others are worst off, that made me feel slightly better but that still doesnt solve my problem. But during my lesson just now, somehow a edison's light bulb lighted up for me!! Eureka!! I realise what I could do to resolve the problem, that totally made my day.

Although I've not start rectifying the assignment yet, but I'm now confident it can be done much easier now. I'll leave that for tml.

Heads up, Chins up, Look ahead....

This week is by far the week which i've spent the most time in school. Even my mum knew i've been home late everyday, but I usually do come home late anyway, so.. watever. I've been in school ALOT!! So much more can be accomplished in school den at home. And I do feel i've done quite abit of work, which is WONDERFUL!

Had IFG training on friday, not the fierce kind of training, which is good for me. I enjoyed the matches, felt abit more in touch as compared to last week. I just wanna enjoy playing, not the trainings. Though as a coach I do know the importance of training up for a sport. I KNOW!! I'm trying to keep the weight off, so please dun bother me abt that, I'll bother myself!

But I do feel that I'm not spending enough time with dear. She's busy, i'm busy.. Either one of us is dead tired when we meet. So kelian, the both of us... Maybe I should start buying TOTO... :P

Oh yah, G Force, have not watched it yet, cos all the cinemas are only showing 1 3D session today, and they are full. Tml as well!! WTH!!

No more short weeks for me.. SobzZ

I started off the semester with only 3 days in my timetable. Happy days did not continue for too long. My 3 days school week is not effectively extended to 7 days. Thanks to the following commitments.

Tedious counting exercises for traffic flow...
Researching and reading up on transportation planning
Readings and writing essays for geography
Being the "tech" guy in my new venture creation group

FYP video-ing to start asap..
Training for IFG, though not very tough, it's quite shack for me in this condition.

so basically there goes my free days... time to camp in school more and time to learn to like that... !! :P :( :)

I wanna watch G FORCE!! :)

Year One

Watched on 27 Aug @ The Cathay

This movie is so forgetable I totally forgot abt it, until now.

Story wise, it's really not abt the story, the flow of the story is ridiculous. It plainly just for laughs. Jack black is on the verge of become the comedian with the least number of tricks in his bag. His first few comedies, yeah great & interesting. Well It seems he he no other tricks to show. I was disappointed with that, utterly!

It tries to fill the movie with a few spoofs of biblical characters which I'm not really familiar with, perhaps due to the fact i'm not christian. But I doubt christians would be happy abt it too.

Micheal Cera on the other hand gave a pretty ok performance, I think it's cos of the role. It's just so much like his previous few roles. Just the nerdy guy. Not too bad.

Watch it, only if you have nothing better to go for.. But beware of the excessive amounts of sexual jokes, not too advisable unless you want your partner to know how u know abt horny jokes... :P

another week of school has past, and progress is going quite well so far. I like it. Keep it up!!!

The tempo for this week is simply to kick start all my projects and get the ball rolling. That's the part which I thought I did pretty well.

I gave advise for a first assignment for my traffic flow module.
I gave a whole list of ideas for Singapore tourism slogan generation.
I came up with a pretty cool idea for new venture creation module.
I kick started some discussions on transportation planning.

All sounds good to me now. JIayou jiayou jiayou!!

Watched on 23 Aug 09 @ GV Vivocity

A romantic comedy was the description by GV. BUT!! It's really only romantic in small parts comedic in even smaller parts. But again, that's not to say that this is a bad movie. It's just somewhere between average & more average. I bet i'll forget abt it after a while.

The lead, Mike is the main romantic component of the movie, yet he does do it the classic romantic way. It's his give it all for love, regardless anything actions that make him romantic.

Comedically, Al who played Mike's good friend and only showed up past halfway thru the show, is the spark of comedy.

A huge thing i dun really like abt this movie is that, the story likes to jump. It's like the director has the "click" remote control, and he keeps pressing skip!!

What I like abt this show, it's a positive movie. The underlying meaning I find is that, many people are stuck at some point in their life. But being stuck is not the end, we just have to learn to move on.

Post Interim Presentation

For the past week or so, i've been freaking out abt this presentation. Cos i really have no background abt this sort of thing, then i'm really unsure abt the things I need to achieve for this presentation. But I think everything turned out quite ok for this event.

I think I did quite an ok job and left the examiners without much questions to ask except for those which I have an idea abt. That in itself is quite an achievement I think. And more importantly, I might actually have a good idea of what else to do next. Perhaps this could be my one significant achievement in NUS, to be able to publish an academic paper for use in Singapore.

It does sound quite "woah", yah??

Well that's still far fetch, I still have plenty of work to do.

With this interim out of the way for the moment, I have other things to worry abt, I have 4 modules this semester and all 4 does involve projects intensively. So not much rest time left for me. I think it's just tonight and tml i'll have to work on the other stuff already. Good thing, I've already sent some "arrows" out, waiting for reply to get some sense of my next step. Now i'll just WAIT!!

District 9

Watched on 16th Aug 2009 @ The Cathay

I watched this film without much knowledge abt it except for the fact that it should involve aliens. This film managed to leave me kindda lost at the end of the movie. Quite a lot of ???s left the cinema with me. Why did the aliens come? Why are these aliens so uncivilised?

I sensed that the producers are using aliens to mimic the actions of whites in south africa, during the apartheid, hence the location in Johanesburg and the military encampments.

For most of the show it's actually quite grossed, the way people and aliens were injured and killed, DISINTEGRATED!! In the end, it's a simple plot of a bunch of aliens trying to go home.

Kindda let down by the ending actually, I was hoping more was explained clearly.

It's not a bad movie, but not fantastic either.

The Proposal

Watched on 16th Aug 2009 @ The Cathay

This is a GREAT movie to watch to cheer yourself up!! It's really funny, but not lame. It's actually believable. Great acting, especially by Ryan Reynolds who plays Andrew Paxton. Sandra Bullock does look a tad old, but perhaps that's needed for her character. Successful & "old"?

Beyond the acting, I think we should really credit the scriptwriters for this one. The lines are fantastically witty. It's so well written you can enjoy the show by purely listening.

So my recommendation is simple, WATCH IT!!

Andrew Paxton: [referring to the story about how he proposed to Margaret] You know what? Actually, Margaret loves telling this story, so I'm just gonna let her go ahead and do that. We should just sit and rapture.
Margaret Tate: Wow, okay... wow, where to begin... the story... Well, um, wow... Okay, well, um, Andrew and I... Andrew and I were about to celebrate our first anniversary together and I knew that he'd been itching to ask me to marry him and he was scared, like a little tiny bird. So, I started leaving him little hints here and there because I knew he wouldn't have the guts to ask...
Andrew Paxton: That's not exactly how it happened.
Margaret Tate: No?
Andrew Paxton: No, no, I mean I picked up on all of her little hints... this woman is about as subtle as a gun. Yeah, no what I was worried about was that she might find this little box...
Margaret Tate: Oh, the decoupage box that he made, where he'd taken the time to cut out twenty little pictures of himself, just pasted all over the box. So beautiful! I opened that beautiful little decoupage and out fluttered these tiny little hand cut heart confettis and once they cleared, I looked down and I saw the most beautiful, big...
Andrew Paxton: ...fat nothing! No ring.
Grandma Annie: No ring?
Grace Paxton: What?
Andrew Paxton: No, but inside that box, underneath all that crap, a handwritten note with the address to a hotel, date and time. Real Humphrey Bogart type stuff. Masculine. Naturally, Margaret, she thought...
Margaret Tate: I thought he was seeing someone else... so it was a terrible time for me, but I went to that hotel anyway, I went there and I pounded on the door. But the door was already unlocked. As I swung open that door, there he was...
Andrew Paxton: Standing.
Margaret Tate: Kneeling.
Andrew Paxton: Like a man.
Margaret Tate: On a bed of rosebuds, in a tuxedo. Your son. Your son... and he was choking back soft, soft sobs. And when he held back the tears and finally caught his breath, he said to me...
Andrew Paxton: 'Margaret, will you marry me?' and she said 'yep', the end!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Margaret Tate: I am not getting in that boat!
Andrew Paxton: Fine, see you in three days.
Margaret Tate: You know I can't swim!
Andrew Paxton: Hence... the *boat*.

Orphan

Watched on 14th Aug @ The Cathay

I seriously have no idea why we would actually have the urge to watch this movie. The trailers have been showing for a while, and it's really obvious it's going to be a movie that would try to scare you from start to the end.

Well, it's scary, cos the irritating director uses the scary music and tactics to make u feel threatened. You will always feel there's something that's gonna pop and scare you, BUT sometimes its just a bluff. Which really builds up the atmosphere for the next scare! BOO!!

The plot of this movie should be considered quite unique, but due to me having just watched "Murderer". I kindda guessed this plot and twist halfway thru the movie. So I concluded Aaron Kwok's "Murderer" is the spoiler for this movie.

Actors wise, the kid, Esther, really creeps you out!!!! She is beyond SICK!!!!!!

My recommendation, if you plan to watch this movie, catch murderer too..

Audio & Visual: 7 out of 10
Overall: 7.5 out of 10

Favourite Lines:
Kate Coleman: Esther? We have to talk about last night.
Esther: Do we?
Kate Coleman: Yes, we do... See, there are certain things that grownups do that children aren't supposed to see, and, uh... that was one of 'em.
[a pause; Esther keeps painting]
Kate Coleman: Esther, listen to me.
[Esther turns to Kate]
Kate Coleman: When grownups love each other very, very much... they want to show each other that love; they want to express it...
Esther: I know. They fuck.

Back in School!!

First day back in school. There's this scary feeling surrounding me, cos it seems like this bunch of newbies in NUS are SCARY!! 4 years in NUS, I dun think i've seen a first day like this.

The library was FULL!!
The carpark was FULL!!
The Canteens are PACKED at 3pm!!

Handed in my interim report finally, many many thanks to dear for helping me collate the data. It's really tedious. Perhaps 1 or 2 days rest is all i'm going to get cos, the interim presentation is coming up next week.

Also took a look at the Lenovo Laptops on sale this year. It's quite bad cos they are selling the huge and tiny models only. I wanna get a new one this year.. but I wonder which one to get...

G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra

Watched on 8 Aug 2009 @ Cineleisure lvl 6

This is a cool movie to watch. Nothing much in the effects that's new or exciting, but it does remind me of a modern version of the mummy. Notice the way the nanomites eat away everything, just like the scarabs in the mummy series.

This movie has a hugely popular cast, that alone would be quite an attraction. Marlon Wayans plays Ripcord, a joker character in the movie, bright spark actually. Like his performance and interaction with Scarlet a lot.

There will be sequels, and i'm looking forward to them.

Favourite Lines:
Duke: Ok, that was crazy... What happened to you?
Ripcord: I went through the train. What happened to you?
Duke: I jumped over it.
Ripcord: [pause] You can do that?
Duke: Yeah, you should have read the instruction manual.
Ripcord: This thing has an instruction manual!?

Road Trip: Beer Pong

Watched on 7th Aug 2009 @ Funshion

This is a another movie by the Road Trip franchise, previous editions include Roadtrip, Eurotrip. It usually involves 3 friends who decide to go on a trip during their school holidays. Usually college students, and wacky stuff always happen along the way.

It's basically American Pie style humor and entertainment. Lot's of sex jokes, crude jokes, lame jokes. It's basically simply brainless entertainment.

Watch it if you are in need of a laugh or a moment of bimbo-ism. :P

Human Counting

I have severely underestimated the difficulty of counting human traffic. People never walk in straight lines and they overtake like nobody's business. HEADACHE!!!

Murderer

Watched on 27 Jul 2009 @ Cineleisure Lvl 9

I dun usually watch chinese movies in the cinemas anymore, simply cos they churn out in DVDs too fast. And there is seldom any need to watch it for any visual effects. But this time, I'm watching it at the cinema cos I wanna see Aaron Kwok in action. And the results... well, let's put in it in 2 ways..

Acting wise it's really superb, regardless of the lead, Aaron Kwok or the rest of the supporting crew. I think they did a fantastic job. They are really really into the character, even though the version I watch is in mandarin whereas the original shld be in cantonese. If you look beyond the weird lip-synching cos of language. It's a fantastic job, he might be up for best actor once again. And the actor who played his son in the movie, great acting, cause even I wanted to kill him!!

Next when we look at the script, the flow, the story, the plot... It has a pretty good 100mins before turning ridiculous in the last 20mins... Sometimes I think they think too hard to provide twists that people would not expect. They went totally out of this world this time!! crazy I tell you!!

My advice, wait for the dvd, and you will not get as fed up as I did...
